Merry Christmas!

From Be my Driver we propose a tour of the Christmas lights in the capital and remember that you can get there in the most comfortable and relaxed way with one of our chauffeur-driven vehicles.

The lights in the city of Madrid alone are a spectacle worth seeing. Designed by prestigious artists, designers and specialists, they will be illuminating the city between 18:00 and 24:00.

This year, the lighting will be present in 25 new locations in Madrid with new designs. These include Gran Vía, Montera, Preciados, Jorge Juan and Narváez.

In addition, there will be an increase in the traditional Christmas motifs, which will paint in colour new areas on the outskirts of Madrid, such as Arturo Soria (Ciudad Lineal); Avenida de Bruselas (Guindalera), Avenida Miguel Delibes (Vicálvaro), Marcelo Usera, Avenida de Oporto and Glorieta de Marqués de Vadillo (Carabanchel).

With almost 6,700 chains full of lights (some 147 kilometres of lights), 118 cherry trees where you can take the best photos to upload to Instagram and show off your night-time strolls around Madrid and 13 large luminous fir trees in the main squares that will delight the little ones and are already a classic in the city's Christmas celebrations.

The new Plaza de España aims to become one of the emblematic sites of this year's illumination as well as showing us its new facelift.

The lights at the city gates and in the Plaza Mayor will be maintained, as well as the figurative nativity scenes.

Classics such as the giant ball on Gran Vía and the Spanish flag on Juan Bravo will be repeated.

The new locations include several areas in the Retiro district such as Calle Narváez, Avenida Menéndez Pelayo, Puerta de Alcalá and Plaza de la Lealtad. Meanwhile, in Centro, the Apolo fountain (Paseo del Prado) and the streets Barquillo, Belén, Refueros, Santa Teresa and Campoamor, among others, will also be illuminated for the first time.

The big Christmas ball with a diameter of 12 metres and 43,000 lights will be installed again at the intersection of Alcalá and Gran Vía streets, in front of the Metrópolis building. This ball will offer a show with a combination of lights and sound that will take place every day at 18:30, 20:00 and 21:30 with a duration of 6 minutes.

You can discover the New Plaza de España through its lights. A fir tree will be installed in Plaza de España and Gran Vía, measuring 18 metres and weighing around 1.5 tonnes. The tree will be decorated with 800 balls of different sizes in silver and gold colours and 200 sweets in different shades.

In addition, there will be 150 luminous cords with around 27,000 points of light, and there will be corresponding gifts. In this case there will be six 1.15 metre high 3D gift packs.

A giant Nativity Scene, in front of the Madrid Tower, on the corner of Calle Princesa, will feature a dozen figures two and a half metres high.
